With the recent extension of the First Home Owners Boost, interest rates at record lows and a strong rental market - there has never been a better time to buy property in Australia.

Consequently, the 2009 Home Buyer Shows are gearing up to welcome record crowds this year with many people keen to secure their slice of the Australian dream after a long period of being priced out of the market.

However, simply buying property is no guarantee it will be a sound investment – buyers do make common and costly mistakes.

In order to make informed decisions, home buyers and property investors of all levels need to do their research, understand the market conditions, and have access to all the right independent advice from reliable experts - and this is on-tap at the Home Buyer Show!

The Home Buyer Show provides the most comprehensive educational seminar programs in Australia for buyers and investors with a major exhibition plus all the impartial, independent information you could ever need to help finance, find and buy a home. And the educational seminars are delivered only by independent experts from State and Federal Government and independent industry associations.

The Hon Tanya Plibersek, Member for Sydney, Minister for Housing and Minister for the Status of Women, will deliver the keynote address at this year's Brisbane Home Buyer show. The Minister provides the welcome message below:

It’s long been part of the Australian dream to own your own home.

The Australian Government understands the importance of housing to people’s lives and we are working hard to help more people get into a home at a price they can afford.

Since coming to government we have established First Home Savers Accounts to help the next generation of Australians save for a home, increased assistance to first home buyers and begun work with builders and local councils to bring new house and land packages quicker and at lower prices.

These are difficult global economic times but for many people now is a good time to investigate the property market – whether it’s a first home, a bigger place for an expanding family or a compact dwelling for retirement.

Smart buyers will do their homework and their sums – consider their options and see whether it makes sense to buy a home now.

Attending the Home Buyer Show, with its informative expert seminars and dozens of exhibitors, can help would-be investors make a more informed decision on their next step in the property market.
